I love doing surprise engagement sessions! Every session is so distinct, and every reaction so unique. It is really exciting for me as a photographer to not only capture those special moments, but to be an active witness of such an important part in every couple’s love story. 
I feel like a narrator in one of those magical fairy tales we used to read and watch in films as kids. Where the Prince, and the Princess eventually end up happy ever after!
So keeping that in mind, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Truxton first called me to set up a romantic session where he would surprise the love of his life Melissa, by asking her to marry him. He was very excited and had some great ideas to make that event an unforgettable moment for her. Truxton is from Utah, and Melissa is from Mexico. They have had a relationship spanning years, and have kept their love and their bond strong, even through the distance. Their story made me even more giddy in anticipation, as it was the stuff that makes a great story book ending.
So I got to work, found the perfect location and coordinated the placing, and arrangement of the roses on the tropical sandy beach located in Arecibo, Puerto Rico before our love birds arrived. 
There is nothing quite as exhilarating as becoming an accomplice in the surprise engagement of a couple. Melissa came into the beach thinking it was just a normal couple photoshoot session to celebrate their first visit to Puerto Rico, but oh boy! Was she in for the most beautiful surprise of her life!
The beach had some amazing sand dunes, Caribbean palm trees, and gorgeous waves crashing against a wonderful small formation of rocks that framed the beach side. The sun was setting, the breeze was soothing, the candles were lit, and the sound of the waves crashing against the coastline set the stage for what would be a perfect evening in the Tropical Island of Puerto Rico. Needless to say; it was an enchanting engagement!
